A Brief History of American Propaganda

The American Historical Association defines propaganda [1]after identifying the difference between “Democratic and Enemy Propaganda.” Thus implying that propaganda from democratic countries is inherently friendly and anything else is the enemy. After reading about the widely known and horrifying history of WWII, the state funded Association then explains that modern propaganda is an umbrella term applied to any materials officially published with the intent to inform. It also makes the point that mass production and promotion of propaganda is great for the economy, and certain propaganda is necessary for man to be a “conscious, informed citizen”. Goebbels would applaud this definition.

COI – Coordinator of Information

In 1941 America was finally forced into fighting the Nazis. Roosevelt’s top spy and corporate bootlicker was a decorated WWI veteran and lawyer named “Wild Bill” Donovan. Obsessed with the psychological warfare he had fallen victim to only a couple decades prior, Bill had witnessed the modernization of radio propaganda in Europe and was determined to bring this new strategy home. After WWI Bill and his wife took a trip across the globe and gathered information everywhere he went; coincidentally to a bunch of nations we would later invade.

It was apparent at this time in 1941 that the Nazis had no intention of slowing down and their propaganda machine and espionage tactics were only becoming more effective. It was this fear that granted consent for the creation of the “Coordinator of Information,” [2]Roosevelt placed Bill at its helm. The chaos and fear of the Nazis secured full diplomatic immunity for this organization, it would be given seemingly limitless permissions and funding to completely restructure the battlefield, adding a psychological element that could reach the wives and children of enemy combatants.

As the bombing of Pearl Harbor took place Bill was already on the phone giving the GO signal to his new foreign operatives, the COI had already been mobilized across the world as a non-military entity and had secured private contracts in Africa and Burma to receive discreet information from locals. Companies like Pan-Am, Phillips, and KODAK, would get an early footing into the data harvesting business for the American propaganda machine. The COI knew who was where, and how they were dressed. They were able to draw on the heartstrings of oppressed civilian populations, forming them into militias by dropping pamphlets deep into enemy territory, the same pamphlet strategy would be used with poisoned bats in a failed attempt to kill masses of people with chemical warfare.

Wild Bill was allowed to act in complete secrecy to the rest of the government. This drew much hatred and reverence from other organizations involved in the war effort, Bill operated in the shadows and his handlers showed no intentions of slowing him down as his methods were effective and securing long term investments in hostile territory. By 1942 the United States operation was gaining media attention, and there were accusations of inter-agency espionage. It was time for the first restructuring of our propaganda machine…

It only gets bigger

OWI – Office of War Information
OSS – Office of Strategic Services

After many successful overseas operations, COI noted it’s need for stateside jurisdiction to combat any incoming “enemy propaganda” that may be produced or shipped [3]to American citizens. It was then decided not to disband the COI, but divide it into multiple branches, claiming independence from each other and displacing blame from any future scandals that may arise. The Office of War Information (OWI[4]) was formed and allowed to take control of the private entity Voice Of America which was created by Wild Bill himself, it began as a radio broadcast in WWII that could span across enemy lines to provide news from home to the allied troops, it also broadcasted taunting messages to enemy combatants.

Voice Of America is still around today and is operated by a board of directors selected by the Oval Office. The agents overseas responsible for information gathering and local combatant training were now assigned to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS[5], now CIA); further from the limelight, they were able to observe governments and secretly arm militias all over the world, allied or not; by any means necessary to assure superior policy, economy, and military success for the United States.

Smith-Mundt Act

In 1945 America won the war against evil and the continued success of these organizations was finally recognized by the public and understood as necessary to fight evil. When the war ended Truman had the groups disbanded against the advice of the shell-shocked Wild Bill. Instead, the state department absorbed most of the operations and the Bloom bill was redrafted and signed as the Smith-Mundt Act[6] in 1948, this bill allowed the State Department to absorb OWI programs (VOA,RFE,RFA…) and granted them exclusive control of overseas propaganda, it also disallowed domestic broadcasting by VOA and others as leadership at the time deemed it dangerous and had potential to brainwash American citizens. However, they still granted rights to continue foreign operations during peacetime with the excuse of maintaining national security and spreading democracy. State-run, imperial propaganda prevailed.

During the inter-war period, communism was rising along with the economies of previously fourth world countries. Eisenhower amplified Americans fear of enemy propaganda subverting the work of friendly propaganda, it was his proposal that greatly ignored the level of espionage America was currently engaged in, he instead frames that enemy propaganda is an immediate danger to the United Nations. His solution called for a United Nations agency tasked with disseminating between “friendly” and “enemy” propaganda and creating a pipeline for allied propaganda to be spread easily across the world. A global multi-national espionage campaign.

VOA – Voice of America
USIA – United States Information Agency

By 1976 the commie axis was fully formed and global media had initiative to squash the appeal of communism in their respective countries. Against the warnings of historians, Ford would sign the Foreign Relations Act[7] once again designating and funding Voice Of America as the official United States propaganda outlet.

In 1994 the consent to invade the middle east was a growing necessity. Bill Clinton signed the International Broadcasting Act[8] expanding Fords VOA charter and allowing regular state funding to be directed to VOA, it also selected and awarded grants to outlets owned by friends of the disgraced politician. This charter would also place these media companies under full control of the United States Information Agency[9]. An agency like the CIA, notorious for using unethical espionage tactics in any way that would benefit US businesses and curb the growing influence of alternative systems of government. The USIA would act as the intelligence gathering agency for the VOA just as the OSS did for the COI. USIA was gathering intelligence on American civilians and acquiring allied journalists; learning and implementing the most effective democratic propaganda to instill fear and hatred toward the commies and Muslims in the East.

Post WW2 media outlets painted as “free” or “revolutionary” are effectively used to silence developing nations that don’t play along. Independent journalists that report on atrocities carried out by the American war machine are branded as terrorists and slandered by state co-op media.

BBG – Broadcasting Board of Governors
USAGM – United States Agency for Global Media

In 1999 the same controversies that would later plague the NSA led to yet another restructuring act that abolished or reorganized and reformed controversial agencies such as the USIA as the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG)[10], then again as the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM)[11] (apparently this is subject to change whenever it acquires too much notoriety.) The excuse aired by state media being that the cold war was won, and espionage was no longer necessary. However, the threat we created in the Middle East now needed to look like a threat so the USAGM is created as an “independent” umbrella agency. It even has board-members and a CEO, all of which are appointed by the Commander in chief and remain under direct supervision by the The State Department and Foreign Service. The agency is tax-payer funded and used to continue financing the VOA, Radio Free Europe, and more. You may have heard of USAGM in “public media” after the phrase “Brought to you in part by.”

This agency paired perfectly with 9/11 and granted the rapid expanse of disguised propaganda across the world.

GEC – Global Engagement Center

In 2016 America is almost 20 years into a pointless war that not even state media can feign belief in, the internet provided direct access to our victims in the middle East and it seemed as though the high ground may be lost for the intelligence community. Then Hillary Clinton has a debacle at a pizza restaurant and pleads to congress about the dangers of fake news. Obama then signs the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation act[12].

Intended to further provide synergy to the intelligence community, it allows the sharing of gathered info between government agencies and passing it through to the recently created Global Engagement Center[13] (GEC), a research center that uses consolidated data stolen from Americans to learn the best ways to engage with civilians. GEC then passes the findings onto the USAGM, like the OSS for the COA, or the USIA for the VOA, NSA for the CIA, Homeland to FBI: studying minds and using the data collected from private entities to learn how to better inform us about the greatness of democracy, and fear of everything else. The center was also tasked with funding and informing private and independent media organizations all over the world, even assigning a full-time tech liaison in Silicon Valley. In 2022 congress passed a budget allotting .8 billion dollars to the USAGM[14] which is currently paying private companies and toxic influencers to market pharmaceutical products and spread war footage. The GEC is the USIA but it smokes hella cigs.

The GEC is set to terminate in 2031, surely it will be replaced by a bigger invasion of privacy considering a new threat. The Voice of America will remain on the air, it lived through every scandal and reform since 1942, it’s cleverly just a simple independent news outlet. Wild Bill’s subversive masterpiece has been able to disguise itself as the voice of the people, whether they like it or not; The Voice of reason, or else.

The goals of state media are never the goals of the people, if they were, we wouldn’t be using video games and cartoons to involve children in a bloody conflict they may soon lose parents to. We’ve all been a victim to propaganda and it’s none of our individual faults, you didn’t want to go to war with Iraq, a silver fox on CNN made you okay with it. Everybody wanted Vietnam, until Jane Fonda came along. However, gone unchecked these outlets of misleading news and corporate cooperation is eating 1 billion dollars a year out of our slave wages while telling us that we don’t make slave wages. I think when it comes to brainwashing conspiracy, it’s got a lot to do with the media and it can be eye-opening when you follow the money all the way back to the Great War, with manipulation leading back so far, how can we be sure if it was ever in good faith? The presidents and leaders of the world that fought in these wars and later formed the Bilderberg group were openly fond of fascistic ideals and had seemingly had no qualms with Hitlers atrocities.

It wasn’t until a civilian population took to the streets demanding the American government help their brothers and sisters in Europe. Even then no help was really deployed until our hand was forced at Pearl Harbor. Are the good guys really the good guys when they are the only ones saying they are the good guys? Why has the state department grown hostile to anybody that questions these things? How far has media consolidation really gone? It seems like the restructuring only takes place when the organization finds its critics, could propaganda also be laundered through other independent media organizations the same way lobbies and interest groups are used to commit bribery on a public stage?

Be very careful where your emotions are invested.
Mass appeal is a powerful tool and it’s being used against you.
They take us for fools because we desire to be.
